A special episode to celebrate the contribution of Dr. Corazon VC Barba to the Nutrition & Dietetics profession

Yesterday’s WOW!, themed, “From One Generation to the Next: The Role of Nutrition Science and Leadership in Nourishing the Nation,” was true to honoring the significant contributions of Dr. Barba on Nutrition in the Philippines and to the profession. This was highlighted during the presentation of our esteemed guest speakers.

Carl Vincent Cabanilla discussed the Philippine Dietary Reference Intakes, how it has evolved through the years, its application and uses. The vital role of Dr. Barba in developing and establishing these reference standards, as well as her advocacy for harmonizing RDA in the region was also emphasized. Dr. Martin Parreno focused on the importance of Nutrition Leadership in addressing hunger and malnutrition especially in the underserved communities in the country. Lastly, Dr. Leila Africa’s presentation highlighted Nutrition Science–its historical perspectives, opportunities and challenges. She also shared key learnings from Dr. Barba through the years.

We are blessed by the presence of Dr. Barba. She gave her valuable insights on where we are headed to in terms of delivering favorable nutrition outcomes and how we can overcome the challenges during the open forum.

It was truly a WOW! episode to remember as participants left with not just knowledge and updates, but a lot of inspiration and hope for the future of Nutrition in the Philippines.
