The first topic, presented by Ms. Carleneth F. San Valentin from the UN World Food Programme, provided us with valuable insights into the country’s situation regarding hunger, and nutrition and food insecurity. She shed light on the current food security situation where 67% of Filipinos can’t afford a healthy diet which is priced at Php 462 per household in 2022.
Ms. Shiela S. Anunciado from International Institute of Rural Reconstruction highlighted the importance and benefits of building sustainable safe and affordable food access in communities and households. She discussed the importance of having equitable access to nutritious food eliminates disparities in food availability and affordability, and ensures that everyone, regardless of their socioeconomic status, has access to the food necessary for their well-being
For our third topic, Ms. May Ann D. Gironella, from DOST – Food and Nutrition Research Institute, provided insights on maximizing our budget for nutritionally adequate diets in our homes. The institute’s Meal Calendar provided local guidance for preparation and portioning of meals at the household level.
Lastly, Mr. Clark Francis S. Dela Riva shared an informative presentation on the role of nutrition in fitness. He also emphasized the significance of addressing specific nutrition requirements before, during, and after exercise to sustain energy levels, enhance performance, preserve muscle mass, expedite recovery, and ultimately optimize our physique.
The webinar was guided by PSND Assistant Treasurer, April Jasmine May C. Ducusin, who not only moderated the discussions but also maintained the energy all throughout the session.
